Tornadoes are some of the most powerful and unpredictable forces of nature, capable of causing widespread destruction in just a few minutes. In the United States, where tornadoes occur more frequently than anywhere else in the world, understanding these storms is crucial for safeguarding lives and property.
For our project, we will be analyzing tornado data from 1950 to 2021 using the
Kaggle Tornadoes Dataset to determine if there has been a shift in normal tendencies, increase in severity of tornadoes, damage and causalities. We will do this by answering the following questions:
- Has there been an increase in the average EF tornado rating?
- Has there been a shift in "tornado alley"?
- Has there been an increase or decrease in damage caused by tornadoes?
- Has there been a shift in the tornado season (using month of peak tornadoes by year as indicator)?
