Let's look at the glaciers as a visual yardstick that makes the changes comprehensible for us: with the higher average temperatures, the glacier metamorphosis literally shifts into reverse gear. Instead of new ice forming, existing ice melts and the glaciers "go backwards". We can see this change in our mountain world with the naked eye. The Alpine Club's series of measurements is one of the longest in the world and makes the perception clear in pictures and figures.
Can we also use our intelligence to reverse climate change? Can we, as the only beings with a sense of aesthetics, preserve the overwhelming beauty of the glaciers?
