The ā€œPā€ in PACE refers to Plankton.

What is Plankton?

The planktons are very essential in aquatic life. They basically have two forms: phytoplankton and zooplankton.

Phytoplankton

These are the ocean's plants. They require sunlight, water, and carbon dioxide to manufacture their food through photosynthetic actions. They are useful in that they liberate oxygen in the water and atmosphere, just like trees and plants do on earth.

Zooplankton

It involves animals of tiny size, which could be minnow fish, shrimp, or even small jellyfish. They cannot prepare their food; therefore, they must eat phytoplankton or other small zooplankton as well.

Plankton are minute but important organisms; this is because they enable the functioning of the complete marine food chain. Small fish depend on plankton for nutrition, big fish feed on the small fish, up to the largest sea animals, such as whales. Without planktons, many marine animals would not eat and survive. They also contribute a great deal to Earth's climate. Phytoplankton can absorb carbon dioxide, a greenhouse gas, and are thus very helpful in lessening the amount of it found within the atmosphere. That makes them vital in curbing climate change.
